This guide is designed to update your FFXI client from any previous version to the current retail version.
Caldera is based on current retail and players will probably have issues with some aspects of the game (notably cutscenes and wrong npc/monster ID's) if attempting to play on previous versions.
10-step Guide to Updating
Step 1:
Use a file browser (Windows Explorer) to navigate to your PlayOnline/FFXI installation location. Open the ROM folder, then open the 0 folder.
Step 2:
Select the 0.dat file and right-click.
Step 3:
Select Delete, and confirm with OK.
Step 4:
Navigate to your PlayOnline installation.
Step 5:
Open the PlayOnline Viewer (pol or pol.exe).
Step 6:
Select the Check Files option from the menu on the left.
Step 7:
Select the dropdown list to expand the options.
Step 8:
Select FINAL FANTASY XI from the dropdown list.
Step 9:
Select Check Files.
Step 10:
Allow PlayOnline Viewer to check the files, then download and install the updates.
Once PlayOnline Viewer says that the update has been completed you should be all set to play on Caldera!
